Seller's Notes"

This is believed to be the only Firebird or Camaro built at Lingenfelter’s shop in Indiana and signed by the late John Lingenfelter. It is the only SLP/Lingenfelter car to retain its numbers matching originality. Instead of the normal Lingenfelter engine swap, I waited weeks longer to have them rebuild the original engine so that the block, heads and intake would remain numbers matching to the car.

I picked the car up at John’s shop on August 12th 1996. John personally dyno tested and road tested the car, adjusted the shocks and signed the strut tower, the engine and the Lingenfelter Invoice. I am the original owner and have pictures of the car in John’s shop, John signing the car and of him and me with the car the same day. This rare Firehawk currently shows 25,830 miles on the odometer. However, when it was dropped off at Lingenfelter’s shop on July 1st 1996 it had 10,850 miles on the odometer so the Lingenfelter modified drive-train, suspension and brakes have only 14,980 miles on them.

After the Lingenfelter conversion Robinson Racing Enterprises fabricated an easily removable (14 bolts) roll-bar with an intermediate harness bar that is also removable (2 bolts). Stainless exhaust was then added out the back passenger side, tapped into the 3” pipe in front of the muffler, with a removable blocking plate. In 2007 the optispark was replaced with a Summit Racing unit, Bosh platinum +4 plugs and high performance plug wires.

This is Firehawk #37 for 1995. Firehawks 1 through 35 were all coupes. The first 1995 Firehawk convertible was car #36 and it was white with beige interior and an automatic transmission.

ABOUT JOHN LINGENFELTER:
The name John Lingenfelter has become a legend in the world of performance engineering. As a race car driver John won 13 NHRA national event titles – nine in Comp, three in Super Stock and one in Pro Stock Truck. Among his many accomplishments as an engineer; in 1988, John designed and built the 355 CID twin-turbocharged EFI 900hp engine for the Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette project. John then piloted the Lingenfelter-powered Callaway Sledgehammer to a record-holding pass of 254.76 mph. In 1995 John’s 383 Firebird won Road and Track’s “Fastest Cars in America” shootout at 192.1mph in the tuner class against a Saleen Mustang, a Vortech supercharged Camaro, a Hennessey Viper and a Doug Rippie ZR1. The ZR1 came in second at about 186mph.

Tragically, John was critically injured during an NHRA drag racing event in Pomona California on October 27, 2002. He passed away as a result of complications from subsequent surgeries on December 25, 2003 at age 58. Lingenfelter Performance Engineering was founded by John more than 30 years ago and is currently run by a distant cousin of John’s, Ken Lingenfelter.
